Aim is the twenty-third spirit in the Ars Goetia, a duke governing twenty-six legions. He appears in human bodily form with three heads: a serpent, a man with two stars on his forehead, and a calf. He rides a viper and carries a firebrand.[1][2]

Fire and answers#

The catalogue attributes the burning of cities, castles, and other large places to Aim's firebrand. It also says that he makes the operator witty and gives true answers about private matters. Destructive imagery and useful knowledge coexist in the same brief entry.[2]

The separate heads help distinguish Aim from Balam and Asmodeus, both of whom receive other three-headed descriptions. A generic illustration of three heads can lose the precise combination of animals and human features supplied for each spirit.

Text and image#

Names related to Haborym occur in the wider demonological transmission associated with this entry. A comparison should follow the description and source spelling rather than equate names merely because they appear in the same modern correspondence list.[1]

Aim's seal is a sign paired with the text. The stars on the human forehead and the firebrand belong to his described appearance, while the seal supplies a different form of identification. Later artwork can develop either feature into a more elaborate image; a source caption makes clear where the artist has added details beyond the grimoire's account.
