Amy is the fifty-eighth spirit in the Ars Goetia, a president governing thirty-six legions. The first appearance is a flaming fire, followed by a human shape. His offices concern astrology, the liberal sciences, familiars, and treasure concealed or guarded by spirits.[1][2]

A flame that becomes a person#

Amy's initial form differs from the catalogue's many animals and mounted figures. Fire is the apparition itself, not simply an object carried by the spirit or a substance emerging from its mouth. The later human figure allows the encounter to proceed as a conversation.[2]

The educational office is broad, while the treasure description is more particular. The presence of guarding spirits makes discovery a contest within the grimoire's imagined spirit world. Shax's entry, by contrast, sets a limit where hidden things are guarded by other spirits.

Familiars and teaching#

Amy gives good familiars as well as instruction. A familiar can represent continuing assistance rather than a single answer to one question. The catalogue places that promise beside knowledge of the heavens and learned subjects.[1]

The seal provides the separate sign attached to the entry. Amy's short name should be followed through those identifying details, because an isolated search can collect unrelated personal names and fictional figures. His numbered position, fiery first form, and specific offices establish which Amy the historical grimoire describes.
