Seere is the seventieth spirit of the Ars Goetia, a prince commanding twenty-six legions. He appears as a beautiful man riding a strong winged horse. The text places him under Amaymon, identified in this entry as king of the east.[1][2]

Swift movement#

Seere's office concerns going and coming rapidly, bringing things about suddenly, and carrying objects to or from requested places. The catalogue says that he can pass around the world with extraordinary speed. It also credits him with reports about theft and hidden treasure.[2]

The winged horse gives that office a visible counterpart. Bathin and Gaap also receive powers of travel, but their appearances do not supply the same airborne mount. Seere's portrait is particularly closely connected with the speed attributed to him.

Disposition and transmission#

The entry describes Seere as good-natured and willing to perform the operator's requests. It is one of the later additions absent from Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, a difference documented in Peterson's notes.[1]

His location near the end of the seventy-two-spirit catalogue therefore matters to textual comparison as well as numbering. The seal supplies the identifying sign paired with the mounted figure. Modern accounts may select speed, travel, or discovery as his principal association; the historical entry brings those effects together rather than assigning only one of them.
