Zepar is the sixteenth spirit in the Ars Goetia, a duke with twenty-six legions. His appearance is that of a soldier in red clothing and armor. The entry attributes to him the creation of attraction between women and men, together with a claim concerning infertility.[1][2]

Attraction and fertility#

The two offices make Zepar's description more complicated than a simple patronage of love. It joins an intended erotic relationship with control over reproductive possibility. That combination belongs to the historical text's treatment of bodies and desire.[2]

An encyclopedic account can record these claims without offering them as methods or medical explanations. The catalogue does not provide evidence that a spirit causes infertility, nor does the presence of the claim make coercive control a shared principle of modern Satanist religion.

A soldier among erotic spirits#

The military clothing contrasts with the beauty attributed to Sitri's human form and the peaceful soldier described for Sallos. Several entries concern attraction, but they use different images and dispositions. Zepar's red armor is one of the few specific color descriptions attached to these figures.

The seal is the identifying sign paired with the name. Later correspondences and devotional accounts may supply additional details, but those additions should identify their authors. The early entry remains brief, centered on a soldier's appearance, the office attributed to him, and his assigned rank and legions.[1]
