Andras is the sixty-third spirit of the Ars Goetia, a marquis with thirty legions. He appears in an angelic form with a dark bird's head, riding a black wolf and carrying a sharp sword. His stated office is to sow discord.[1][2]
A hostile entry#
The catalogue explicitly warns that Andras may kill the operator and companions if care is not taken. Unlike the numerous entries promising instruction, his brief account is dominated by hostility. The warning belongs to the historical representation of the spirit.[2]
Amon is said both to produce feuds and reconcile disputes. Andras's office lacks that balancing promise. The contrast helps distinguish the catalogue's different treatments of conflict rather than giving every spirit associated with quarrels the same function.
Bird, angel, and wolf#
The hybrid figure brings an angelic body, a bird's head, and an animal mount together. Translations and illustrations differ in their treatment of the bird. A recognizable engraving can select one species while simplifying the older wording.[1]
Andras's sword is separate from the wolf and contributes to the martial image. His seal gives the sign paired with the name. The entry is useful for understanding demonological fear and the aims represented by the grimoire, but it supplies no justification for real violence or a claim that modern devotees share the conduct attributed to the literary figure.
