Leraje is the fourteenth spirit in the Ars Goetia. The text describes a marquis with thirty legions, appearing as an archer dressed in green and carrying a bow and quiver. Leraye and Leraie are among the spellings found in editions.[1][2]

The archer's office#

The catalogue associates Leraje with battles and contests. It also claims that he makes wounds caused by arrows putrefy. The narrow connection to archery matters: it is more particular than a general description of a spirit of war.[2]

The entry links Leraje with Sagittarius, joining the visible bow to an astrological sign. That is a correspondence given by the historical source itself. Other modern assignments, including colors beyond the stated clothing or ritual offerings, need their own published sources.

Leraje among martial spirits#

Eligos appears as a knight and concerns the disposition of armies, while Halphas is associated with fortifications and military supply. Leraje's role is focused on conflict and the effects of arrows. Those differences remain visible when the entries are read as individual portraits rather than grouped under one broad war category.

The seal identifies the spirit within the Goetic catalogue. It provides a sign, not an anatomical illustration of the archer. Artistic depictions may elaborate the costume or surrounding scene, but their details belong to the artist's interpretation. The grimoire's own short account leaves much of the figure's appearance unspecified.[1]
